Issue Position

We must keep the government out of our healthcare decisions, whether it be at the beginning or at the end of our life decisions. As a doctor, I know how personal and complicated those decisions can be. Especially now, during the current COVID-19 crisis, respect for people's choices and for their health decisions must be safeguarded and protected. With a majority of Supreme Court justices on record as opposing the constitutional protection of individual choices, it is especially important that we have a United States Senator who stands by these constitutional rights -- and insists on only confirming judges who stand by them, too. But the current court also highlights that relying on judges is not enough. It is past time to pass legislation enshrining women's reproductive rights into federal law.

It's also time we recognize that affordable family planning services and comprehensive age-appropriate sex education helps to reduce unintended pregnancies. That's why we need to support such programs, and I will do so as your Senator. I also will fight for better pre and post-natal health care, expanded adoption, and support for parenting programs, so that women who want to carry forward their pregnancy will have the freedom -- and the ability -- to do so, and so that every child born will have a fair chance in life. The federal government has no legitimate role in telling people what to do with their bodies. These are highly complex decisions that are for patients to decide in counsel with their physician.
